One Day Trip in Ilo-ilo

While my nine (9) year old son is on his MTG training in Ilo-ilo, I was able to explore some good spots and historic places in the place alone. People in Ilo-ilo are so warm, the way I observed them, they are silent type, not loud and yet a very friendly, sweet people.

I've got the chance to roam around the city, crossing streets and riding their jeepneys going through and back in my hotel.

For this post, I am sorry but I could not give exact details on the streets of the many places I will mention here.

I love walking, so the very first thing i did was I walked as far as I could go in many streets, crossing the streets, talking to many people, asking places and I was felt secure.

I checked-in in Ong Bun Pension House, it is a budget friendly hotel of which I just paid P330.00 per overnight stay for 5 days.

These are some of my captured photos while walking around the streets in Ilo-ilo.

Since my son is on an in-house training, I could go anywhere in Ilo-ilo for a solo trip!

First on my list is the La Paz Market, I have visited the well known Madge Cafe for my breakfast. Sorry but I forgot to take a pic of their menu. I paid P100.00 for my breakfast including a cup coffee and an extra rice.

The place is cozy even though it's located inside the public market. The food also is okay.

The service is awesome!

Before leaving the place, of course.

My next destination is the San Joaquin Cemetery. From La Paz market, a jeepney ride going to Supermart, I paid seven pesos for the fare. Then, a jeepney route going to San Joaquin Cemetery. May be for about 1 hour and 45 minutes I was able to reach San Joaquin Church.

After the long ride, this is the outside view of the San Joaquin Cemetery. I was very hesitant to go inside because no one is around the cemetery!

With a little prayer for my angel, I face my fear, I roam a little around the cemetery alone. Took this picture smiling. Creepy!

The gate when you are inside the cemetery. Its really not a good feeling when you're inside in the cemetery alone!

Few steps from the cemetery, I found this store selling halo-halo for P15.00 only, so I grabbed one and enjoyed the moment.

The fifteen peso halo-halo! The taste, not bad.

Next stop is the San Joaquin Church, it is a tricycle ride from the cemetery. Fare is eight pesos.

The view outside the San Joaquin Church.

The Altar, a traditional arrangement with the human sized crucifix in front.

The San Joaquin church in my background.

My Moving Up Speech for Junior High School 2016

MOVING-UP SPEECH 2016
By: Alvin Diola Ligan, MM, RPm
April 2, 2016

It is in greatness feeling that you invited me to become your guest speaker for today’s ceremony. I was very pleased and inspired to stand in front you to be enlightened about the gladness that we could feel in line with this very momentous event- The First Moving Up Ceremony.
First and foremost, I would like to congratulate the faculty, the staff and the administration of Samson Polytechnic College of Davao.
Way back years ago, this school, was already known as one of the forerunner of bringing quality training and education to the many people not only in our beautiful place, Davao City but all through the regions in Mindanao and reaching far beyond the Philippines and the rest of the globe. Your school has proven remarkable performance in producing quality workforces locally and on abroad. Some are now part of the business industry, in educational institutions as trainers and educators and some are improving their lives and careers as business individuals. Your school, Samson Polytechnic College of Davao, indeed brought the limelight of becoming one of the most established and valued schools in Davao City. Decades have passed, the high school program, the Sunday high and the daily program has consistently served permissible and uncomplicated environment for its clients. But because of these undyingly effort, your school has widen its services and extending programs for the college. This only shows that your school was very much consistent in working what’s best it could give to the community. Could we give our school a big round of applause?
Lucky you are because you are one of the many beneficiaries of the Department of Education’s K-12 Senior High School Program. From Junior High School, you are moving up to Senior High School level, in this sense, you will be exposed to a more prepared, competent and well-equipped environment that will make you become an employable great workforces in the industry that you want to serve.
Being also exposed to this K-12 program will also recognizes our Philippines educational standard internationally as practiced by many countries in the world.
The theme for today’s ceremony is “Moving forward, soaring high…”
Now I would like to emphasize the two important words in the theme, Forward and Soar.
To move forward is to go on progress or moving ahead.
One best quote that I could relate to this is from the movie “Rocky Balboa as starred by Silvester Stallone, he said that “Life is not about how hard of a hit you can give… it’s about how many you can take, and still keep moving forward.”
Moving forward from the hardships we experienced everyday is one way of pushing ourselves to get closer to our goal in life. Pushing in a sense that you could go farther and become a better person for your family and the community in which you belong.
Moving forward means to take one step at a time by forcing yourself to get up because there will be no other way and all you do is “just do it!”
In moving forward, we must do some of these actions;
1. Change our perspectives by creating positive outlook in life.
2. Confront our struggles and must not afraid to deal with it.
3. Play our worries, believing that God is bigger that our fears.
4. Always realize that the process of achieving our goal will always take time. And that Patient is always a virtue.
5. One more thing, we must also believe that not everyone around us will be in our back especially in times of troubles. Believing oneself is very important.
To the school, moving forward means promoting best ideals needed in the society that would somehow be very useful in bridging the real situations of the community into the future. In addition, by regulating faultless programs and trainings that will connect the requirements of the industry and by producing well-appointed human resources to the real world.
My idea here is clear, that if we move forward, we can look further for the awaiting sunshine. As what the song have said “That there is always a rainbow after the rain.”
The second thought that I would like to point up is the word soar. Soaring means having a relatively in great elevation, it is more than flying.
I have read one bible verse from ISAIAH Chapter 40 verse 31 and it said:

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar
high on wings like eagles. They will run not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.”

One realization on this is that when God says that we can soar on the wings like an eagle, He is not suggesting that we attempt unassisted aerials. He wants us to soar spiritually in our daily walk with him.
Moreover, in soaring high, we could still face hardships and thunders along the way, and we reminded that we must face our heads-on knowing that He is with us in our struggles. But once we get through all of those adversities and harsh conditions and realizing good dynamics in life then we must not forget the value of humility. As I read another one bible verse from JAMES chapter 4 verse 10;

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

To go over, the challenge of becoming a stronger person and as a well-built school community, just like your school, Samson Polytechnic College of Davao, will lead to unlock a larger opportunity that aligned to create one better society of a responsible and well improved standard of living ahead.
To you, the candidates of this event, the challenge is the same.
You are the future! The youth is our future!
Be vigilant but be a responsible individual. One of you will lead our community and may become the best leader in our country.
I have read one funny yet meaningful story about the three sons who discussed the gifts they gave to their elderly mother. And the story goes like this;
The first son said, “I built a big house for our mother.”
The second son said, “I sent her a Mercedes with a driver.”
Then, third son smiled and said,”You remember how mom enjoyed reading the Bible? And you know she can’t see very well. So I sent her a remarkable parrot that recites the entire Bible. It took elders in the church 12 years to teach him. The parrot is one of a kind. Mama just has to name the chapter and verse, and the parrot will recite the whole verse for her.”
Soon thereafter, mom sent out her letters of thanks to her sons:
“Michael,” she wrote one son, “the house you built is so huge. I live in only one room, but I have to clean the whole house.”
“Gerry,” she wrote to another, “I am too old to travel. I stay most of the time at home, so I rarely use the Mercedes. And the driver is so rude!”
“Dearest Dennis,” she wrote to her third son, “you have the good sense to know what your mother likes. The chicken was so delicious.”
Remember, it’s the thought that counts.
For this, I extend my best congratulations to all of you parents and guardians for bringing your sons and daughters in this community. I firmly believed that they are now outfitted in choosing the best field that they wanted to be for tomorrow. Our role now is to consistently assist them and guide them for whatever decisions they will make in the future.
May I request our candidates to please stand and acknowledge now your parents or guardian by waving on them and giving them an inspiring round of applause!
I have here one last quote from a popular athletic brand.
Remember that, “Impossible is nothing.”
Focus on yourself, set a plan and visualize where you see yourself tomorrow; know the things and steps in order to get there – YOUR GOAL. Learn this by heart that there is no easy way and all these things should be done at all and once you do it that is a success!
I say once again, congratulations to all of you and have a pleasant day ahead!

Thank you. J

One Day Trip to Mati from Davao City

Here's one good thing to share about our one day trip to Mati, Davao Oriental. I believe that all would agree that travelling is a whole lot of fun.

As the travel manager of this trip, I see to it that we could go back here in Davao City before 7:00 in the evening as scheduled since this would just be a one day trip.

As part of our recreational activity of our school (our team building activity), Active Star Kids Arts and Play School, Inc. (Visit and Like our page!). I personally acquainted my teachers about the one day trip. And since we have our driver and Starex Van to be used for the travel, it is a lesser burden for me than to book a travel agency or hire a service van for the said trip. All of the teachers have agreed that we will be going to a beach resort in Mati.

I have read about the many things to do in Mati through some travel blogs , since we are going to a beach resort then the only target place would be the Dahican Beach. Yeah, it is our first time!

From Davao City, Specifically in Spring Valley, Buhangin, we departed around 4:00 in the morning (supposed to be 3:00 AM) and estimated time to arrive in Mati is 7:00 AM.

We headed from Davao, Tagum then straight to Pantukan, Banaybanay and Lupon going straight to Mati.

Now this is the simple itinerary that I made for the trip.
